Choosing a class
Which certification do I actually need?
Look at what your employer asked for, not the name of your job. Heartsaver is for people with little or no medical training who need a card for work, regulatory or OSHA reasons — teaching, child care, coaching, offices, warehouses. BLS is for healthcare providers and anyone expected to respond to a cardiac arrest: nurses, CNAs, EMTs, students in clinical programmes, therapists. ACLS is for providers who treat adult cardiac arrest and cardiopulmonary emergencies — ED and ICU nurses, paramedics, PAs, NPs, physicians. Still unsure? Do I need to be a nurse to take these classes?
No. Heartsaver is designed for people with no medical background at all. BLS and ACLS assume you work in, or are training for, a clinical role. NRP and Intermediate Fetal Monitoring are for people already working in perinatal and neonatal care.
Do I get continuing education hours?
Intermediate Fetal Monitoring carries 11.5 nursing contact hours / 11.5 CME credit, available through January 31, 2028. The AHA and AAP courses issue provider e-cards rather than contact hours. If your licence renewal needs a specific number of hours, tell me before you book so we get the paperwork right.
Booking and payment
How does booking work?
Pick a date on the calendar, fill in the form once, and your seat is held immediately. You’ll see the payment options on the confirmation screen and get the same information by email. No account, no subscription.
How many seats are there?
Twelve, always. Every class is capped at 12 attendees so everyone gets equipment under their hands and time with the instructor.
How can I pay?
Card through our secure payment link (Apple Pay and Google Pay work there too), or Venmo, Zelle, or cash on the day. Card details are handled entirely by the payment processor — this website never sees or stores your card number.
Can I buy seats for other people?
Yes. Choose how many seats you need on the booking form and list the additional attendee names. Remember that each attendee has to meet the course requirements themselves — and for NRP or fetal monitoring, that means completing their own pre-course work.
Do you take insurance or employer billing?
We can invoice an employer or agency, and we can provide a W-9, PO reference or roster. Choose “Invoicing, W-9, PO or employer paperwork” on the contact form and tell me what your finance team needs.
Cards, renewals and prerequisites
How long is my card good for?
AHA cards — Heartsaver, BLS and ACLS — are valid for two years. NRP is renewed every two years, by the last day of the month in which you completed the instructor-led course. Intermediate Fetal Monitoring has a recommended renewal every two years.
When do I get my card?
AHA provider e-cards are issued through the American Heart Association and are available within 48 hours of successful completion. Need it faster? A rushed card is available for an extra $25 — tell me before class starts so it goes out with your cohort. Contact-hour certificates are issued at the end of the course.
I lost my card — can you replace it?
Your e-card lives in the certifying body’s portal, not with us. AHA cards can be retrieved through the AHA e-card system with the email address you gave on the day. If you’re stuck, email me your booking reference and the date you attended and I’ll help you find the record.
My card expired. Do I take the initial or the renewal course?
They run in the same session. Take the initial course — the card requirements are identical, and I’ll pace the skills portion to what you actually need.
What does NRP involve now?
Two parts. Part 1 is the online curriculum (Lessons 1–11) completed at your own pace through HealthStream — around 3–8 hours, paid directly to HealthStream (about $35) and not part of the class fee. Part 2 is my 2.5-hour in-person skills session, which you take within 90 days of finishing Part 1. A Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation is required, and simulation with debriefing is a required part of the course — your performance in simulation is not used as a pass/fail criterion.
What pre-course work does fetal monitoring require?
The AWHONN pre-course work takes about 3.5–4 hours and must be completed 2 days before the course to attend the in-person sessions. You also need the AWHONN Intermediate Course Student Pack (8th edition) from Kendall Hunt — ISBN 9798385129010 for print or 9798385128945 for the ebook, $145 plus shipping. On the day
What should I bring?
Photo ID — the name on your provider card must match it. Wear something comfortable you can kneel and move in. Bring water and a snack for full-day courses. For NRP bring your Part 1 completion certificate and textbook; for fetal monitoring bring your Student Pack.
How early should I arrive?
Five to ten minutes. Classes start on time, and if you arrive after the skills portion has begun we may not be able to sign you off that day — which counts as a no-show under the cancellation policy.
What if I have an injury or a physical limitation?
Tell me when you book, or before the class starts. Skills practice almost always has an adaptation — different positioning, extra time, or a modified manikin setup. I would much rather adjust the session than have you sit out.
Where are classes held?
At our training room in Fontana, California — the full address comes with your booking confirmation. Private classes are held at your location anywhere across the Inland Empire and greater Southern California.
Private classes
Can you come to my workplace?
Yes — that’s the point of private classes. Any open date on the calendar, any of the five certifications, up to 12 attendees, at your address. Use the private class request form.
How is a private class priced?
Per seat, based on the class, group size and travel. Submit the request form and I’ll reply with a total before anything is booked or charged.
Can you run a mixed group?
Often, yes — for example six people needing BLS and four needing Heartsaver. Say so in the request and I’ll confirm how the day will be structured.
What do you need from us on site?
A room with space for people to kneel and practise, somewhere to unload equipment, and a standard power outlet for the AED trainers. We bring everything else.
Changes and cancellations
What happens if I need to cancel?
Cancelling 72 hours or more before your class lets you move to the same class on another date — that moved booking then becomes non-refundable. Cancelling inside 72 hours forfeits the fee. Full detail on the cancellation & refund policy page.
What if you have to cancel a class?
You choose between a full refund of the class fee and a place on the next available date. Third-party fees you paid directly (HealthStream, Kendall Hunt, rushed cards already submitted) aren’t refundable by us, because they aren’t ours to refund.
Can I send someone else in my place?
Not without telling us — a provider card has to be issued to the person who attended and passed. Email me with the new attendee’s details at least 72 hours before the class and I’ll sort it if the seat is still open.
