What ACLS is

ACLS is a set of clinical interventions for the urgent treatment of cardiac arrest, stroke, myocardial infarction (heart attack) and other life-threatening cardiovascular emergencies. It extends beyond Basic Life Support to include airway management, IV line initiation, reading and interpreting electrocardiograms (ECGs), and the application of emergency pharmacology.

ACLS guidelines are developed by the American Heart Association and updated regularly to reflect the latest evidence-based practices. This course has been updated to reflect new science in the 2021 AHA Guidelines for high-quality CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care.

Team dynamics, not just algorithms

This advanced course highlights the importance of high-performance team dynamics and communication, systems of care, recognition and intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest, immediate post-cardiac arrest care with Targeted Temperature Management, acute dysrhythmia, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes (ACS).

What the AHA ACLS training covers

  • Basic life support skills, including effective chest compressions, use of a bag-mask device, and use of an AED.
  • Recognition and early management of respiratory and cardiac arrest.
  • Recognition and early management of peri-arrest conditions such as symptomatic bradycardia and SVT.
  • Airway management including CO2/O2 monitoring.
  • Relating pharmacology and pharmacokinetics — the drugs, the doses, and why they are given when they are.
  • Management of ACS and stroke.
  • Effective communication as a member and leader of a resuscitation team.

Your card

Provider e-cards are issued through the American Heart Association and are available within 48 hours of successful course completion. Need it faster? A rushed card is available for an additional $25 — tell me before the class starts so I can submit it with your cohort.

  • Renewing providers — the initial and renewal sessions run together, with renewal students on a shorter skills track.

Before you come

  • A current BLS card is expected; BLS skills are folded into this course, so you leave with both refreshed.
  • Bring photo ID — the name on your e-card will match it.
  • This is a full day: bring water, a snack, and something to take notes with.
  • Come ready to work in small teams — most of the day is run as scenarios, not slides.

Cancellations

Cancelling inside 72 hours of the class means the fee you have paid is forfeited. Outside that window you may move to the same class on a different date, and that transferred booking becomes non-refundable. See the cancellation and refund policy.
